Scotts Bluff Detention Overview
Scotts Bluff County Detention Center is operated through the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Office and detention center administration. It is a regional county detention facility in Gering that serves Scotts Bluff County, surrounding municipal agencies, other Panhandle counties, and U.S. Marshals Service contract detainees. For Banner County, it is the practical regional jail facility found in the research, even though it is not inside Banner County.
The facility holds male and female detainees, pretrial detainees, short-sentence local detainees, surrounding agency and county detainees, and some federal detainees. The official page describes it as the fifth-largest county detention facility in Nebraska and the largest county detention facility west of Grand Island. Sheriff Mark Overman leads the detention center, and the facility page names detention programming and administration contacts.
The official detention center screenshot in the manifest comes from the Scotts Bluff County facility page.
The facility screenshot supports the capacity, contact, and regional detention details used for Banner County inmate search routing.
Scotts Bluff Capacity and Population
The detention center was built in 2007 with 186 beds. Renovations completed in 2018 added 100 beds, bringing the total to 286 beds. Those are facility figures, not a Banner County-only inmate population. Because the jail receives detainees from multiple local, regional, and federal sources, a current total at this facility cannot be assigned to Banner County without an agency-specific report.
| Measure | Figure | Source Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Current capacity | 286 beds | Official detention page after 2018 renovation. |
| Original capacity | 186 beds | Official history for the facility built in 2007. |
| Population type | Regional and contract | Includes surrounding county, municipal, and USMS detainees. |
Search Scotts Bluff Detention Inmates
Use the Scotts Bluff/Zuercher inmate portal for public current-inmate searching. The official Community Engagement Portal page says the inmate tool lists current inmates. For a Banner County arrest, call the Banner County Sheriff first when transport is unclear, then use the portal or the booking line if regional detention is likely.
- Search by name in the public inmate portal.
- Use arrest date, release date, or in-custody date filters if too many results appear.
- Look for release-date information before assuming the person is still physically held.
- Call booking at 308-633-1864 for limited confirmation of current incarceration, charges, and bond amount.
- Switch to NDCS, BOP, or ICE if the person is sentenced to prison or held under another custody system.
The regional portal can show Banner County agency labels in its data, but those labels do not replace a direct custody confirmation from the sheriff or jail.
Scotts Bluff Detention Contact
Use the main line for general facility questions and the booking line for current custody, charges, and bond amount when staff can release that information. Court dates should be checked with the court, not treated as a booking-desk record.

Booking and Classification
Scotts Bluff County's divisions page lists dedicated booking, classification, medical, PREA, programs, transport, billing, and work-release contacts. Booking personnel may answer limited questions about current incarceration, charges, and bond amount. Classification handles housing and agency housing requests, and medical questions go to the medical department when medication or health information is involved.
The detention divisions screenshot comes from the official page that lists booking, classification, bond, medical, programs, and transport contacts.
Those division contacts are important because Banner County's own website does not provide a jail booking desk or roster help page.

- Housing and security placement after intake.

Scotts Bluff Video Visitation
Visitation is video-based. Off-site visits can be conducted from an internet-connected computer with webcam and microphone after the visitor creates an account and schedules through the linked ICSolutions/NCIC system. A jail lobby kiosk is available for people without off-site capability. Professional visitors check in with reception and must follow professional dress and property rules.
The official video visitation page is shown in the manifest screenshot.
Use the current facility page before scheduling because the county had a 2025 communications RFP and vendor details can change.

Medical care is contracted with Advanced Correctional Health and is staffed on site seven days a week. Food service is through Trinity, and the facility also provides laundry and transport services.

Programs are relevant to Banner County detainees only if they are housed at the regional facility and meet facility or court eligibility rules.
Note: Confirm custody, visiting status, and current communication rules with the facility before traveling to Gering.
